Silver jewelry is among the most beautiful and desirable in the world. While gold and platinum may be more expensive, silver is just as beautiful with great durability and is easier to find.

Most silver jewelry is sterling silver. Pure silver is only slightly less malleable than gold making it undesirable as a form of adornment, but sterling silver is a tougher material. Sterling silver is a blend of silver and other materials, usually copper. 92.5% of sterling silver is actually silver, with the remaining 7.5% the other material. This is the same silver used to make silverware and curios.

The most common forms of silver jewelry are sold alongside gold versions in most retail establishments. As silver is stronger and more commercially desirable, it is used to make far more designs and products for the average retail customer. Popular designs and products include:

Silver earrings are less expensive than gold, and actually better for the ear. Silver has healing properties, so silver studs are especially desirable as the first pair of earrings after piercing. Sensitive ears also benefit from silver earrings.

Rings 

Silver rings are often created with unusual and intricate designs. They are considered more causal than their gold and platinum cousins, so they are created to be interested and diverse. Rings made of silver are common for both men and women and can also be worn as toe rings - a trend popular around the world.

Silver bracelets are seen in many fashions. Simple silver chains or thicker bands are popular as are silver bangle bracelets thanks to recent fashion whims. But perhaps the most common and well known type of bracelet is the silver charm bracelet. A silver chain goes around the wrist and special silver charms are purchased to hang on the individual links. The charm bracelets increases and decreases in popularity as trends come and go, but it is a staple for many despite current fashion.

Pendants 

Silver pendants or drops are popular as elegant pieces of neckwear. The actual pendant can be any number of designs with hearts, crosses and other symbolic designs especially popular. Pendants can be solid silver or inlaid with decorations or carvings. Some pendants include gemstones.

Silver necklaces include pendants, chains, beads and collars. Silver chains have interlocking links in a variety of sizes. Chains can be fine with tiny links or larger with much more substantial links. Larger link necklaces are popular with both men and women.

Pendants are a chain with a dangling decoration such as a heart or symbol of some kind. Silver beads are balls, squares or other shapes strung on a chain or ribbon. The beads can be smooth or carved. Finally a silver collar and choker are thicker necklaces worn on or very near the collar bones that closely encircle the neck.
